Albert Bierstadt: Life, facts, curiosities and art!

Albert Bierstadt was born on 7th January 1830 in Solingen. At the age of two his family migrated to United States to New Bedford, Massachusetts. In year 1858 Albert Bierstadt displayed his large- sized works at the annual exhibition of National Academy of Design. In the same year he participated in an expedition to California under the leadership of General Lander. On this expedition he made several sketches and drawings, from which his famous “Weitwinkel-Panorama Gemälde" (Wide angle-Panorama Painting) developed later. He undertook many trips to the West, to the Bahamas and to Europe. In Europe, Bierstadt developed close contacts with other independent painters of school of Barbizon and also with English landscape painters. Albert Bierstadt died on 18th February 1902 in New York City.
