Amadeo Modigliani: Life, facts, curiosities and art!
The Italian painter and sculptor Amedeo Modigliani was born on 12.07.1884 in Livorno and died on 25.01.1920 in Paris. Modigliani came from a poor banking family. The artist suffering from lung disease moved to Paris in 1906, where he met Picasso, Kees van Dongen and later Juan Gris. Amadeo Modigliani led a Bohemian life and tried to flee away from reality with the help of art and by excessively consuming drugs and alcohol. Modigliani linked the linear styles of to the objective world with two dimensional colour schemes inspired by Paul Cézanne in his portraits and nudes that reflected a melancholic mood. His sculptures display the same style as his paintings. Modigliani omitted details to a large extent and acquired a free form with the Deformation. From 1915/16 onwards Amadeo Modigliani found his own style and painted portraits influenced by Cubism, where he used mainly rusty colours. Amedeo Modigliani did not live to see the success of his art. In 1917 he held the first and his only exhibition in Paris. In the same year Modigliani got acquainted with a art student Jeanne Hébuterne, whom he portrayed in many of his paintings and who was his lover. In 1919 they got married and Amedeo Modigliani died in January 1920 in Paris. Jeanne Hébuterne committed suicide after a few years.
