Camille Pissarro: Life, facts, curiosities and art!

Camille Pissarro was born on 10.07.1830 in Charlotte Amalie, Danish West Indies on the United States Virgin Islands of today. He died on 12.11.1903 in Paris. Pissarro was one of the most important and productive painters of Impressionism and Neo-impressionism. Camille Pissarro made impressive landscape paintings at the beginning of his artistic career. Camille Pissarro came to Paris in 1843, where he joined Impressionism and occasionally, turned to Pointillism around 1870; under the influence of the school of Barbizon (C. Corot) and initiated by Éduard Manet. He met Paul Gauguin whose early production he influenced largely, at the Impressionist exhibition. In the Neo-impressionist phase, his paintings were characterized by short and nervous brush strokes. The works of Pissarro differ from other Impressionists due to the exact compositions, higher concentration of colour in two- dimensional works and his conscious painting layouts. Camille Pissarro died at an age of 73 on 13th November in Paris.
