François Boucher: Life, facts, curiosities and art!

François Boucher was born on 29th September 1703 in Paris. He was the most successful painter who represented the characteristics of the French Rococo. François Boucher travelled to Italy for a few years in 1727, where he was greatly impressed by the works of Tiepolo. Soon after his return from Italy, he began his career with the Paris academy. He became the Director of this Academy in 1765. By the year 1755 he was already honoured as the Head of the Royal Gobelin factory. He received many orders from the royal palace because of the special protection he received from Madame de Pompadour whom he portrayed often. François Boucher transformed the difficult, pompously pathetic forms of the Baroque into light, disintegrated, delicate and graceful forms. The main focus of his painting lies on worldly themes. Boucher, who was also active as book illustrator died on 30th May 1770 in Paris.
