The French painter Georges Seurat was born on 2. 12. 1859 in Paris. Besides Paul Signac he is also the pioneer of French Neo-impressionism (Pointillism), which Seurat developed methodically on the basis of scientific study of colours. He mainly created figural scenes and river landscapes in rigid, geometric image layouts, which paved the way to Cubism. Seurat died on 29. 3. 1891 in Paris.
