Gustav Klimt: Life, facts, curiosities and art!

Gustav Klimt was born in Baumgarten in Vienna to Ziseleurs Ernst Klimt and his wife Anna (born as Finster) and died on 06.02.1918 in Vienna following a stroke. As a well known disciple of Art Nouvea, Gustav Klimt created works that illustrate the conflict between the inseparable figures and decorative ornaments. This type of line perspective in his two- dimensional planar art creates an impression of vitality and liveliness. In his “golden period” during which he painted his famous painting “The kiss” (1907-1908), Klimt used gold in his paintings. In his later work, he dealt artistically with existential questions like life and death, joy and fear, health and birth. A decadent – morbid erotic is characteristic for Klimt’s female figures in all his paintings. In 1897 Gustav Klimt established Vienna Secession together with other artists and became its first President. “Vienna Secession” was seen as a revolt against the traditional, academic art style and it is considered as the Viennese version of Art Nouveau even today. Gustav Klimt influenced many artists such as Egon Schiele, Oskar Kokoschka and Friedrich Hundertwasser as well as the Vienna school of "Fantastic Realism”.
