Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec: Life, facts, curiosities and art!

The French painter and graphic artist Henri Marie Raymond de Toulouse-Lautrec was born on 24. 11. 1864 in Albi. He became crippled at a young age following a fracture. He detached himself from all the groups and developed bold surface- and line styles, which reduced the represented work to basic forms with a clear contour emphasis. Toulouse-Lautrec was attracted to the lifestyle of Parisian Montmartre; he was inspired by the hustle and bustle on race courses, in circus arenas and in cabarets. The merits of Toulouse-Lautrec are significant in the development of colour lithography and modern poster art. Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec died on 9. 9. 1901 at the Malromé palace in Gironde.
