Hieronymus Bosch: Life, facts, curiosities and art!

Hieronymus Bosch - also known as Jheronimus van Aken – was born in 's-Hertogenbosch in 1450. The works of Hieronymus Bosch are fascinating even today. His paintings are characterized by intensive colours and an effect of depth. His outstanding painting technique was way ahead of the times – especially in the reproduction of poses, movements and facial expressions. The paintings of Hieronymus Bosch are especially impressive because of their innumerable details and have fascinated viewers, time and again. Hieronymus Bosch was a critic of Klerus who was one of his most important employers. Although he restrained himself from openly criticizing his employer, this fact is depicted in an implied or symbolic manner in his paintings. Only few of his mysterious paintings have been decoded as he did not leave any notes related to his work and many of his secrets have gone to the grave with him. Hieronymus Bosch died as a highly respected artist in 1516 in s´Hertogenbosch. His influence is especially obvious in the work of Pieter Bruegel. His most famous painting of Hieronymus Bosch is “Garden of Earthly Delights” which also had a major influence on Surrealism.
