Raffael – also known as Raffaello Santi –was born in Urbino on 6.4. 1483. In 1508 he moved to Rome where he worked as an architect of the Peters church and a curator of the antique monuments. Raffael trained himself in the art of Leonardo da Vincis and Michelangelos. His figures developed agility and were fitted in pyramid- like structures. The tasks he accomplished in Rome were his artistic peaks. He unfolded his Frescos in wide and multi-figured compositions in the rooms of the Vatican. The ideological beliefs of his times are reflected with the spirits of Antiquity and Christianity in the “The School of Athens” and “Disputa” in Stanza della Segnatura (1509-11). Raffael's naval paintings such as "Sistine Madonna" have acquired classic- exemplary significance. Raffael died on 6.4. 1520 in Rome.
